Damian Marley Biography

Damian "Junior Gong" Marley was a musician, record producer and rapper born in Kingston July 21, 1978. He is the son of Bob Marley, hence its nickname "Junior Gong", which comes from his father, nicknamed "Tuff Gong". He made his arrival into the world charts with the album Welcome to Jamrock 2005.

Biography

Damian Marley was born in Kingston. From an early age he moved to New York. His mother Cindy Breakspeare, Miss World in 1976, grew up in affluent neighborhoods of the capital.
He started in music in the "Shepherds", a group of children from Aboriginal stars. After numerous appearances on stage, including "Reggae Sunsplash" in 1992, the group dissolves and Damian is moving towards the dancehall.
Deejay Degree, his first single was released in 1993 in "Tuff Gong", the label founded by his father. The following year he delivers his second single Sexy Girls on My Mind at "Main Street".

Damian then became spokesperson for "Leaf of Life Foundation", an organization that helps children with HIV. His first album, Mr. Marley, was produced by his brother Stephen, head of the Marley Boyz production team. With this new album, he broadens his audience and appears several times in the Lollapalooza festival in 1997. In 2001, he returned with a new album, Halfway Tree, which gives him the opportunity to work with many artists such as Capleton.
In February 2006, he was involved with all of his brothers and sisters in concert "Africa Unite" celebrating the sixtieth anniversary of the birth of their father, Bob Marley at Nine Miles.
On May 18, 2010 Distant Relatives out a studio album in collaboration with Nas, which are called among other things his brother Stephen Marley, K'Naan, Lil Wayne, Joss Stone, or with whom he is preparing the first album of Superheavy. Distant Relatives is an album of love, some of the funds collected are actually intended to build schools in the Congo.

Super Heavy Group
In 2010, he sang with Bruno in March featuring the song "Liquor Store Blues" the single from the album "Doo-Wops & Hooligans". In April 2011 the video for this single was released.
Since May 2011, Damian Marley Superheavy belongs to the group, formed by Mick Jagger, with the English singer Joss Stone, Dave Stewart (the Eurythmics) and with Allah Rakha Rahman Indian composer, especially known for composing the music for the film Slumdog Millionaire. The first album is announced for September 2011.

A musical increasing weight 

Damian Marley fits between paternal tradition and modernity, as it loves to mix his Jamaican reggae to American rap. The proof is with the title Road to Zion (2005) in collaboration with the rapper Nas, for which a clip was filmed in New York, which shows the very strong American influences facing Jamaica today, but the attraction American rappers of the Rastafari movement, he also performed on this album of collaborations with his half-brother Stephen Marley. Damian has also realized with Nas, the title Patience


Welcome To Jamrock Vidéo

"Jamrock" is a nickname for the island of Jamaica, where Marley is from. This song talks about the high crime and poverty in the country. Additionally this song and cautions against thinking that the whole of Jamaica resembles the tourist resorts that create a paradise image of Jamaica.
